Macrium Reflect Clone and Expand: A User's Experience

When it comes to cloning hard drives, there are various methods that can be employed to achieve this task. However, when dealing with a non-operable OS, things become more complicated. In my case, I had an Acer netbook model Aspire One D-150 with Perfect Image 12, which allowed me to clone the HDD to another drive using a USB-bridge cable to the outboard SATA drive.

Unfortunately, this method did not work as expected when I tried to transfer data from a non-operable OS. In my experience, attempting to import a backup disk image onto the nuked drive via an outboard backup drive and an external optical USB drive resulted in failure. Not only did it leave the source drive damaged, but it also failed to transfer the desired data.

Frustrated with this outcome, I decided to explore alternative methods. This led me to consider using another computer and two USB bridges to connect the working and empty drives for the transfer. While this approach may seem cumbersome, it could potentially overcome the limitations of a non-operable OS.

As someone who has used Macrium Reflect, specifically the free version, I am interested in hearing from others who have tried cloning their hard drives with this software. Did you experience any issues or difficulties during the process? Did your clone accurately transfer the operating system while leaving the original drive intact?

In my case, I ended up purchasing another Aspire One to get a working OS XP Home and then cloned the drive using Macrium Reflect. While this method ultimately worked for me, I am curious to know if others have had similar experiences with this software.
